Meadowbank Community Sports Development to open early in March

As visitors to Meadowbank park will have spotted, its much-anticipated new community football facilities, soft play and café are in the final stages of completion.

Residents, visitors and local junior clubs can soon enjoy everything the new development has to offer, including a 3G pitch, floodlights, stands, clubhouse, changing room, soft play attraction, café, new headquarters for Surrey FA and new home for Dorking Wanderers FC. The facilities will be a fantastic addition to the already very popular park and children’s playground.

The final weeks of work have taken a little longer than envisaged and will now be completed by the end of February, with opening re-scheduled for early March.

Councillor Charles Yarwood, Executive Member for Assets and Investment, said “We have continued to work closely with our contractors and partners, Surrey County Football Association, Dorking Wanderers Football Club and Churchill’s Catering to get these exiting facilities open as soon as possible. We are certain it will be well worth the wait!”

Mole Valley District Council has invested £8million* in the sports facility and also secured £500,000 through the Sport England Improvement Fund towards the provision of the state-of-the-art football facilities. Surrey FA have funded the build of their new headquarters.

Caroline McRoyall, Surrey FA, Chief Executive Officer said “Although Surrey FA are disappointed to delay their move to Meadowbank, we are working closely with Mole Valley District Council to ensure the necessary requirements are all in place to complete the facility as soon as possible.

“Surrey FA will be responsible for managing Meadowbank Football Ground, with the new headquarters acting as a hub for the delivery of FA coaching and referees courses, as well as the venue for our own County Cup Finals. We’re really looking forward to opening our doors and ensuring a great experience for everyone.”
